im simply curious to see though, whether the movement will have actually grown or have shrunk.
Oh and saw this video of Wise Beard Man today:
Oh and someone over at Whtechapel made a pretty cool connection that didn't occur to me:
Stand Alone Complex
First off, probably the most circulated video right now regarding the Mar15 protest:
Altanta Protest Arrests
However you look at this, it is or is not a big deal. On the one hand, clearly these protests have been successful in being completely non-violent and peaceful (at least from what I heard), but on the other, you get shit like this. The guy in the video is essentially arrested for no reason, just picked out of the group randomly and given citations for protesting without a permit, and causing offensive or hazardous conditions. Its somewhat subjective, but its pretty clear at least in this video, the only hazard visible is the cops in all-riot gears; batons, armor, and shotguns.
What is interesting to note as well is how they also give tickets to the cars that honk. Probably the most potentially frightening part of this whole vid? You may not realize it but that cop takes the person right into the Scientology center as opposed to well....the station or wherever. I smell something fishy.....
Secondly, some footage someone posted on Spikedhumor today which gives a great visual example of how big the turnout was in Hollywood:
Anonymous Second Scientology Protest in LA
Heres London earlier in the day, hopefully the turnout was better later in the day...
March 15 Protest London, Tottenham Court Road Raid
This is also kind of amusing, especially in contrast to Atlanta. Almost makes the LAPD look good....
LAPD at March 15 Hollywood Anonymous Scientology Protest
And sadly how Anonymous is getting covered on Major News Stations:
ABC on Clearwater, FL
FOX 11 Report, Los Angeles
ABC calls Anonymous a "Church" which is really fucking stupid, while FOX actually manages to deliver a somewhat objective report.... If the numbers reported by ABC are true, its realyl sad that Clearwater of all places resulted in such a small turnout.
Honestly, I can't really tell how the turnout was this time. Alot of the videos posted over on youtube for various cities including the ones I posted dont seem that impressive. Hollywood and a few other locations look like they had huge turnouts while others only a handful of people. Either way, it seems the protest was successful in regards to getting people's attentions and serving as a PR nightmare for Scientology...
that was me btw....
it really does seem like the turnout in some places was really unspectacular though, 15/20 people? thats sad especially for NY. I wasn't even aware a CoS was in Times Square though.
Also heres Anonymous's latest Official Video:
I wasn't even aware of this until someone pointed it out on Whitechapel, but the day before the protest, Atlanta had been hit by tornadoes destroying at least 20 homes. Makes you wonder why so many cops were even bothering with a bunch of kids "peacefully" protesting the morning after instead of helping out the tornado victims.....
That said I liked Anonymous' latest video and shift in approach if you will to focus on the families. More personal anecdotes would give more credence/allow more people to connect more with issues that can sound or seem abstract. Definitely will be interested to see what happens April 12th :]
I actually forgot about the April 12th event til just recently but reading up on it quickly has provided some interesting results. On a general basis, although turnout numbers were definitely much lower, its surprising to find that a good number of CoS members had actually stepped out towards Anonymous in efforts to leave the Church.
Either coincidence or related, but on the protest day, actual authorities raided the CoS in Belgium.

Another church in Duesseldorf, Germany seems to have completely disbanded leaving a completely abandoned church building behind, so signs or nothing.....

a rather interesting account posted second hand on Warren Ellis's bbs:
...was part of the Louisville, Ky protest (not many only about 30 of us). most all we're in masks, some like myself dressed up (as it was a particularly warm day) i was in full chef whites 10 inch touque and all and guy faux mask when a few of us were approached by a young lady in similar mask. she started talking to us about how her father was a part of this particular "church" and how when she spoke out about her fathers behavior he instantly became hostile, and even violent before kicking her out of their home. she began crying underneath her mask telling us how she missed him and just wanted her old dad back. that instantly turned the rather upbeat protest (rickrolls, chants, and banter between us and Co$'ers) into 30 of us simply standing completely still and staring at the building across the street.
i had the opportunity to cross the street and talk to the officer standing in front of the building to ask about our rights and what we we're able to do (kentucky has odd rules on this, chanting and singing were allowed, any handouts needed to be approved, which we complied, and no vulgar, profane, or threatening methods, verbal or otherwise were to be used). while i was iver i noticed wen the CoS closed. before that time i had this young woman write a note to her father explaining her situation to her father, i then took this note, walked the 5 blocks to my truck, changed into civis, and headed back to the building. I found the man as she had described to me and handed him the note, when asked wo i was i simply stated concerned and walked to a local bar.
i met with this girl again a few days later as we had arranged to find out her father and her had talked and were beginning to rebuild their relationship. i didnt pry furthur as she seemed to still be upset at the situation. however she seemed hopeful.
a random side note, gotta love the title of their next protest:
