actually, i think guitar hero/rockband has helped me somewhat in playing for real.  it definitely helps somewhat with getting better timing, its similar to how i learn songs normally which is to play a guitarpro tab and play along while the ticker goes over the tabs on beat.

i guess its sort of like guitar hero almost, instead of color blocks, its simply tab numbers and theres no game scoring system....
