I'm sure comics are awesome, but I think you're feeling that way mostly because it's a lot newer to you than anime/manga :p

not really no. i mean essentially comics and manga are the same medium. Im simply saying Ive found the american industry far more engaging in recent years though of course alot of that is down to personal judgment

im actually saying to try out some comic titles since you say theres a lack in anime/manga and I feel it would be a natural shift from one to the other, since its really just branching out within the same field. anyways, id say its worth a shot either way......

For the people who are still watching/reading anime and manga, what are you following?

 

My list is huge as always, but for the new shows out this season, I'm tremendously taken with Vampire Knight (THIS IS WHY I LOVE SHOUJO! HOT BISHIE AND DRAMA YES!), so-so on Allison and Lillian (probably too high expectations going in, since I read the author of Kino no Tabi wrote this story... so far it's just ok for me though) Macross Frontier... Macross was a shock for me because I sat through the first couple minutes thinking "this is so not my type of show." I pretty much downloaded because most of the ANN reviews staff rated it very highly, and sure enough by the end of episode 2 I was hooked. It's got some really pretty, shiny mechas/fight scenes... plus anything that Yoko Kanno has touched =

 

Some other shows sitting on my compie that I haven't started yet include Code Geass Season 2 (w00t!), Amatsuki (curious from reviews I read, but again not sure if it'll be my cup of tea), and Himitsu - The Revelation. Himitsu sounds like it's got a really intriguing plot line in particular so I'm excited to check that one out, although I have the niggling suspicion that it might be too scary for me. All in all, this is a pretty kick ass season I think! :D

Oh and lastly, ANN is doing a pretty kick ass job reviewing practically all of the new series out this spring so I would definitely recommend giving those a look if you're curious to see what's out and hot on the plate.

Granted I disagreed with quite a few of the shows that some of the reviewers are in love with (did quite a bit of downloading, watching about 10 minutes, and deleting) but they did at the very least get me hooked on Macross Frontier... I'm hoping Amatsuki and Himitsu will turn out to be keepers as well.

 

And no, I will never finish watching or reading all of the series I mean to finish. I've pretty much accepted that at this point. I'm just hoping Netflix will help cure me of this problem haha of taking on a whole bunch of new series without finishing all the ones I'm halfway through.

I finished Vampire Knight anime, marathoned through VK manga, went through brief period of depression, and then I proceeded to catch up on Nodame Cantabile, which was awesome, and now I'm hitting depression again. Because Nodame was so freaking good I'm not sure what to follow it up with ; D;

...I guess I should finish Tekkon Kinkreet next so I can finally return it to Netflix, have had it for like almost a month. I also want to watch Paprika. I need to get into something longer though so I can be distracted for a solid period of time ; -;

I just finished Honey & Clover. D: I couldn't bear with having no Honey & Clover at all, so I've moved onto the live action. It isn't as good, obviously, but it fills that hole in my heart.

Paprika was interesting. I really loved the colors, and the whole visual aspect to the story. It lagged a little for me in the middle, but the end picked up.

I am sort of floating at this point. Watch a little bit of this...a little bit of that. I'm also trying to go back and start and finish older popular-in-their-day series. Almost done with Wolf's Rain (liking it very much so far). Any suggestions on what to start next?

I started Soul Eater 'cause I was floating around as well. I'm not sure why I started it, but I guess I felt like going for some pure entertainment. I got initially hooked by the pretty animation, and then I just got sucked in by the general hilariousness of the series so far. The second episode was kind of irritating but the third episode just seriously cracked me up big time. I find it funny that I'm hooked on this series since I haven't been really big on the "traditional" shounen fare since quite a while back. But Soul Eater is definitely a really fun watch so far. Bones just rocks my world <3

Brom I remember the hole in heart feeling when I finished H&C xD But at least you didn't have to sit in anxious anticipation for S2 after S1 ended! I never tried the live action myself... it just didn't look that great. Maybe someday I'll go through the manga...

I didn't have much time during this summer to really follow any series', but now that I'm home, I finally got around to watching Kaiba. It's really quite an amazing show in that it's just so unusual and unique all-around. The character designs almost remind me of Osama Tezuka's work and the animation style/storyline were distinctivly intriguing in their own way.

In the end, it did seem a bit rushed to me, but seeing as how its a 12-ep series, I think it did really well in terms of delievering a solid work with what it had to work with.

Definately one of the best series' I've seen this year (which is probably only like 2-3 compeleted, but still!)

 

Looks interesting! I just wiki'd it to check out the story ("it is described as a sci-fi love story") and it looks nothing like what your screenshots suggest haha. I agree with you on the Osama Tezuka-looking style. How did you hear about this one?
