I was going to pick up my DS lite today but ran into a bit of an unforseen block. That's going to be fixed tomorrow though xD I was going to get a game with it and was eyeing The World Ends With You and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I really really wanted to get Heroes of Mana because I started playing that game on my friend's DS (and that more or less convinced me that I want a DS) but the Gamestop didn't have it, mehp. So I was going to get The World Ends With You. Are there any other DS games I should check out? xD
While I dont own a DS myself, I'd highly recommend taking advantage of the DS's rewritable firmware. With simply a big enough SD card and downloaded emulators, you can essentially play any SNES, NES, Sega, or Neo Geo game you would ever want for free.
I know this isnt really what your looking for but thought it might be of interest if you didn't know about it already. Either way, its a great way to gain access to a large back catalog of classic games that are as good if not better then alot of the DS's own catalog.
PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT PHOENIX WRIGHT!

Also, Feel the Magic is a good time killer, and Derek always supports Pokemon and Advanced Wars.
I was going to say Phoenix Wright I dont have a ds but ive always wanted to try that game
I picked up my DS today and it is AWESOME. I LOVE IT! XD I feel like I've finally gotten the gameboy that I've wanted when I was in middle school hahaha. Now I can say goodbye to long boring bus rides/travel when I can't sleep...
So yeah I got Phantom Hourglass 'cause they had it used at the store; wanted to save a little bit of money since I also picked up Katamari Damacy for PS2. I've beaten it before but I've always to get a copy 'cause that's just such a classic... but yeah. Zelda <333 *dies*
OBJECTION! XD I'll definitely try to check out Phoenix Wright when I get the chance. Must say I'm curious because that game was so incredibly hyped in con skits...
I'll keep your suggest in mind crap in case I run out of things to play :3
Adding to the list:
Final Fantasy IV (J:II) - This is the new rendition of the original. SQUARE completely overhauled the graphics and it even has voiced cut-scenes! Really awesome game.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village - If you're into puzzle-ish type games (or maybe not even), this will appeal to you, it's just so unique. One the best of its kind out right now!
I've only played the first Phoenix Wright (which apparently is the best of the trilogy as there is nothing innovative in the rest of the sequels) and it was fun, but I've heard the new Apollo Justice is really promising as well.

I forgot about this game! I remember I wanted to try it, so thanks for putting it up, XD.

This is pretty true. As far as gameplay goes, it's same across the board, but the storylines are the fun part. I played most of the first and then the second, and loved both.
Oh yeah puzzle-ish games are lurve xD I keep telling people the puzzles are what I love about Phantom Hourglass because I get to feel smart beating all the temples and stuff. But then again, I had gotten two big spoilers about rabbits and mirroring symbols from a co-worker who was playing the game... so I'm sure I would've died over those if I hadn't known in advance. As was, I had to FAQ a temple switch and a few treasure chests, but overall I still FEEL SMART SO THERE!
...I meant to say, I'm definitely going to check out Professor Layton too, because I've had several friends recommend this game to me.
Na-na your recommendations remind me of my game-guru friend's xD I sent an email asking my best game-guru friend for DS game recommendations and here's what she sent me, along with words of praise for Professor Layton and The World Ends With You (I love that title xD):
Quoting flyin's awesome friend:
1. Elite Beat Agents- rhythm game where you tap along to classic songs, it's fun (there's also 2 japanese versions with jpop songs called Ouendan)2. rauma Center- game where you are a doctor and have to do surgeries. the first game is crazy hard but a classic (and old). the second game just came out and is also very fun (but don't play if you're squeamish I guess)
3. Phoenix Wright (4 games in the series)- they're like computer point and click games but funny storylines (I like the third game a lot but it has more impact if you play all of them since you're more attached to the characters). they're also cheaper ($20 I think).
4. Chocobo Tales- it's a very simple rpg that has card battles and tons of minigames. i found myself enjoying it quite a bit actually
5. Hotel Dusk- a text adventure type game (point and click too) where you're a former detective trying to figure out what happened at this hotel- very atmospheric and a good experience I thought
6. Final Fantasy Revenant Wings/ Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2- both of these are strategy RPGs that are probably good but I haven't played either of them
7. Final Fantasy IV- just came out for DS- it's a classic
Also coming soon are Chrono Trigger and Disgaea for the DS- something to look out for.
