Ahoyee!

I've started on a FF3 theme
which is still in pre-release status. It's very much inspired by the IN4 gizmos, so I thought I would share it here.

It's very much in a crude form, but feedback would be appreciated (this is my first real theming attempt).

Unfortunately I haven't progressed to skinning my FF... but it looks like you're getting some nice feedback already, xD Mebbe post it on customize.org when you're finished? :}

coincidently i recently started skinning ff too,  although im probably going in a completely different direction.  since i want all my programs and such to match my VS as closely as possible, I never use an actual theme.  Instead, I try to take out as much as I can such as menus and buttons I would never use then let the VS style the program.

i.e. no File, History, Edit menus; Navigation buttons, Search bar, Go Button, etc..

anyways, I have it almost to the way I want it except couldnt figure out a few things.

any idea on how to completely get rid of icons on tabs?  I got it as far as to just show a default icon, but I dont even want that.

also, can't figure out how to get rid of the useless icon that shows site info in the location bar.

That's what I use to get rid of the Tab icons. Don't know about the location bar icon, I might have the answer on my home computer. . . .

But generally, I just use the Default theme with flat tabs and text. No icons or anything. XD

yea gid i tried that already but it didnt work.  it simply got my tabs to not display a specific website icon, and just show a default site icon.

That's the only other thing I can think of. It worked in FF2 and it's working in FF3 for me, so I'm not sure what it might be.  :\

hmm yea, that doesnt seem to have any effect either...

:S It looks like a nice theme Nagenio, but Derek's laptop/character encoding has been battling FF3 since day one, and I haven't been able to get it fixed, so I'll have to stick it with the default. I love how you set up the tabs in particular. :3

Well I finally got this theme officially released. It's definitely come a long way, but it really was a lot more work than I was expecting when I first started it; there are just so many components (especially to produce the same results on osx firefox). It was an interesting experience to say the least.

Going off on a tangent, I was also wondering how many of you have tried google's chrome and what your thoughts on it were. From what I saw, there were still some kinks to be worked out and some rendering issues were apparent as well, but I did appreciate the minimality and simple design (although not so much the icon-work). The integration of g-apps into the browser working space was a nice touch as well (is what I'm assuming if I did use anything other than g-mail). All-in-all, I would say it's an excellent start, and it'll be interesting to see well it does in the browser war (achieved 1% marketshare in 9 hours).

havent tried it yet but it definitely sounds interesting.  i know they were going for a minimalistic look, but i still find it somewhat looks like eye cancer.  Regardless I find the multi-threading very interesting.

Yea, my initial reaction to that was: eww... resource hog, but I'm guessing a big part of that design was to dynamically allocate the memory for tab processes depending on the one in focus. Even so, I don't often run into issues with tab instability that causes the whole browser to lock up on regular, non-multi-threaded engines enough for me to really want to switch at this point (especially with the proper add-ons).

And really, it's not anything ground-breaking at this point, and other browsers have had the handicap of time to refine and develop add-ons for theirs. Who knows, it may end up on the shelf next to google talk in the distant future.
